What do I do if my phosphates are high?

Answer

The main cause of high phosphates is from overfeeding.  You want your phosphate levels to be 0 ppm.  To reduce your phosphate levels you can do one of several things.  The first thing is to reduce feeding.  Second, do a large water change of 30%-50%.  Third, purchase a phosphate remover and add it to your tank.
